Chocolate eggs don’t have to be the only thing you and your family have to look forward to this Easter. There are plenty of activities and things to do in your garden over the Easter holidays. If you are not sure what kind of things you can do with your children, this guide should provide you with a few ideas and what you will need!
Make an Easter Garden
This is a great activity because it will encourage your children to think about the reason they are celebrating Easter and means you can make use out of some of the hard work you put into growing different plants in your garden.
You will need:
- A shallow tray or pot
- Some compost
- Some grass or moss cuttings
- Twigs
- Flower and/or hedge cuttings for decoration
- Small stone
- Small pot or container
What to do:
- Fill the tray with the compost and arrange the grass or moss on top and make a hill
- Use the twigs to make a small cross, securing it in place in the soil
- Press the pot container into the hill and place the stone in front of it, as the tomb
- Use the flower and hedge cuttings to decorate the rest of your Easter garden.
Easter Egg Hunt
This is the classic Easter garden activity and will keep your children entertained for as long as you’d like. You don’t have to use chocolate eggs, pretty decorated ones are equally as nice for people to find. Simply place them at various points in your garden, with clues at each about where to find the next.
Easter Egg and Spoon Race
Everyone loves an old-fashioned egg and spoon race, adults and children alike, so why not add this to your list of fun Easter activities for the garden. To make this more suitable for Easter, replace the hard-boiled eggs with small chocolate ones. Alternatively, you could still use the hard boiled ones for the race, and have a large Easter egg as the prize!
Easter Egg Bowles
This game is super fun and is great because it can be played by all ages and abilities, so no one gets left out.
What will you need:
- 1 large Easter egg
- smaller, different coloured Easter eggs (enough for each player)
What to do:
- Place the large Easter egg at a chosen position in the garden
- Each player takes it in turns to bowl their egg, trying to get it as close the the large one as possible
- The player who gets their egg closest to their large one wins the large Easter egg as their prize.
