Now that the sun is starting to make more of a regular appearance and summer is finally on its way, you might want to start thinking about preparing the garden so that you will be able to entertain friends and family throughout the summer months. One of the first steps to making your garden suitable for summer is a patio area, and here’s how!
1.Choose your ideal spot
The perfect patio spot will depend on when you will want to spend time there. You should consider where the sun is at different times and choose your spot accordingly. You might also want to bare in mind how far away the area is from the house- would it be easier if the area was closer to the entrance?
2.Choose your ideal material
If your patio is likely to get a lot of use, and you want it to last for a number of years, you should opt for a hard wearing stone such as concrete, granite or yorkstone. Likewise, you might want to choose a stone with a rough, non-slip texture to make the area safer.
3.Consider your colour scheme
If you already have a colour scheme in your garden, you might want to consider this when ordering your paving stones. For example, if you have a colour scheme consisting of blue tones, you might want to opt for a grey or light sand coloured stone, rather than red.
4.Buy all of the correct tools
The only way your patio can be truly perfect is if it is fitted properly, using the correct tools and materials. 5.Choose your seating
If you have spent time and effort making your patio look perfect, you will want to be able to spend time enjoying it. However, if you want your patio to be use more for relaxing and soaking up the sun, you might prefer a wooden bench or some sun loungers. TIP: Given how unreliable the English sun can be, invest in covers for your patio seating, or put it away whenever you aren’t using it, to prevent it from becoming damaged from the wind and rain.
6.Keep it clean
Now that you’ve finished creating your patio area, you should keep it in tip top condition by cleaning it regularly. Once a year with patio cleaner or even mild detergent and a stiff-bristled brush should be sufficient!
