Material Information
Turf & Meadowmat Characteristics:
Turf is a layer of living grass and soil that is cultivated and sold as a single piece. It is used to create an instant lawn or to repair damaged areas of an existing lawn. Our turf is only harvested once you order so it will not be sitting around and drying out beforehnd.
Turf is typically made up of a mixture of grass species that are chosen for their durability, appearance, and suitability for local growing conditions.
To lay turf, the following steps are typically followed:
-
Prepare the soil: The soil should be free of weeds, rocks, and other debris. It should be raked and leveled to create a smooth and even surface. Add topsoil if required.
-
Install edging: Install edging around the perimeter of the area to prevent the turf from spreading and to create a neat and defined edge.
-
Lay the turf: Begin laying the turf along one edge of the area, making sure that the edges of the turf are tightly butted together. Turf usually shrinks slightly once laid, so it's important to push the turves close together when laying. Work your way across the area, laying the turf in a staggered pattern to create a seamless look.
-
Cut the turf: Use a sharp knife or turf cutter to cut the turf to fit around obstacles such as trees, flower beds, or paths.
-
Water the turf: Water the turf thoroughly immediately after laying it, and continue to water it regularly until it is established.
- Do not walk on the turf until it is established.
To care for turf, the following steps are typically recommended:
-
Watering: Water the turf deeply and regularly, especially during dry spells. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot and other problems.
-
Mowing: Regular mowing is necessary to keep the grass healthy and looking its best. Mow the turf to a height of around 2-3 inches, and avoid cutting off more than one-third of the grass blade at a time. However do not mow until the turf has established.
-
Fertilising: Fertilise the turf regularly to provide the grass with the nutrients it needs to grow and stay healthy. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates and timing. Be careful to avoid overspilling lawn fertilser onto your patio as the chemicals contained within the formula will often stain a patio and cause any iron content within the stone to rust.
-
Weed control: Remove any weeds that appear in the turf, either by hand or with an appropriate herbicide. Avoid using herbicides that can harm the turf or other plants in the area.
-
Aeration: Aerating the turf periodically can help to loosen compacted soil and improve the circulation of air, water, and nutrients to the grass roots.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your turf stays healthy, lush, and attractive for many years to come. It should be remembered that a lawn is constantly in a state of change, responding to many external influences such as the weather, soil conditions, mowing, watering, feeding and any other local environmental factors.
